At the beginning of April we are publishing another 11 Essentials to round out at an even 30 titles. To celebrate we’re going to countdown with a beautiful cover a day - today’s is Anthony Burgess’s A Clock Work Orange.

He began his career working in commercial animation in the United Kingdom, and now works mainly as an illustrator. His work has recently appeared in magazines and online for clients including the New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine and AOL. Kristian lives in his native Oslo, Norway.
I saw Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy last year sometime and even though I never had a clue what was going on, I still kind of loved it in all its 70s beige glory. After I gave up trying to understand the plot, I ended up just enjoying the film for how it looked. There was a scene with George Smiley sitting in a dark room and the lighting was amazing, so I decided I had to do something with it.
I started doing this vector using a new technique several months ago and spent hours on it, but then gave up. It’s been annoying me since then, and now I’ve finally decided to finish it off purely to get rid of it. I don’t like it; I will never be able to look at Gary Oldman without feeling guilty and frustrated.
